I'm making plans to be between York and Wetherby of a Saturday night, I'm after recommendations of a decent place to have a meal with the other half. Chinese eat-in would be good, as would pub grub-type fodder...and we're rather fond of "diner food", (not unlike the OK Diner on the A19, Hartlepool way).
We're not after posh, just somewhere decent outside of town...

La Laconda just outside Wetherby.
Great reputation for Italian food and busy every time I drive past it - may want to book.

I think there is a chinese in between York and Leeds. It was owned by the same person as Canton Flavour and 7TEA1. Dont know if its still there or not though.

The Chequers Inn is superb. The food is very good, price is very good and the atmosphere is welcoming and cosy.
I would highly recommend it, plus its out in the middle of nowhere so is nice and quite.
There isn't really any place in the area that i would recommend over this place. perhaps the pax at tockwith which is about 2 mins from the chequers, or the muse cafe in wetherby.

Many, many thanks from me and the OH. Went to the Chequers for grub yesterday - absolutely fantastic. Food was perfect, staff were great, and the atmosphere was perfect. Very reasonably priced too. Liked it so much we went back for a couple of lunch drinks on the way home today... and it won't be the last time.
